Ideally, orientation and guidance are considered early on in a construction project and planned in parallel. In this way, architecture and the (typo)graphic signage system can go hand in hand functionally and aesthetically, or even skilfully contrast. In order to explore this appropriately, I recommend an exchange at an early stage.
When converting existing buildings, orientation and wayfinding is often a particular challenge – and at the same time a great opportunity to strengthen the character of the building through a new interpretation and to underline its new purpose.
The orientation systems are designed in accordance with DIN 1450 and, if desired, taking existing design guidelines into account. After accompanying the assembly, I then create documentation for later extensions or changes.
The works shown were created in collaborations with Ivy Kunze, Frank Übler, Severin Wucher and Polyform.
The orientation signs in the new TU Berlin building on Marchstraße are reminiscent of traffic signs and pick up on the architectural references to industrial architecture.
