If you want to convey new ideas, you often have to find a new language which helps to bring people with a different level of knowledge along with you.
»Work visually« means communicating ideas, concepts, working hypotheses and results with more than just words. It means actively shaping the image that listeners, employees, decision-makers and sponsors keep in their minds of the work presented. To do this, we use information graphics and findings from the psychology of perception.
On several occasions, I have had the pleasure of formulating mental models of their work with employees of the most renowned research institutes in Germany, to specify their thoughts and put them on paper. In the one- to two-day workshops/coaching sessions in German or English, the participants create graphic mental models of their research topics.
I also accompany innovation and strategy processes as a sparring partner for visualization, helping to structure, reflect on and then communicate the resulting concepts.
Using sketches, the participants test and check graphic models to communicate their work.
The graphic model on the research poster is used for personal reflection and as a reference for the presentation.
Different graphic models help to distinguish and remember the work even after many poster presentations.
